The State of USA Boxing

It may have gone unnoticed, but Team USA collected only one medal in the Olympic Boxing competition.  The nation that brought the world Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, George Foreman and Oscar De La Hoya could not manage to earn more than a single bronze medal this time around.  By comparison, the US won three medals in Taekwondo and one medal in Judo.  We did better in the martial arts sports than we did in the squared circle.

Can anyone seriously argue that boxing is more relevant than MMA?  I think not and it's a sad statement on the state of a sport that has been fundamentally corrupt for so many years and has turned off the development pipeline of new young athletes.
